Pirate Homecoming

This weekend was Pirate Homecoming. Only we weren't in Greenville. And there was no parade, no tailgating, no football game, no walks around campus reminiscing. Instead we gathered with our Pirate Family on the opposite side of the state for the first time in 7 months. We talked, we laughed, we played, we snuggled. It was easy, comforting, and healing. We were home.

We took the kids to Ray's Splash Planet...an awesome indoor water park owned by the county. There are slides, sprays, a lazy river, and even a whirlpool. I think the adults may have had more fun than the kids...I personally could have ridden the water slide all day! :)

This is what family is for us...togetherness...everyone loving and taking care of each other...our last names and genetic make-up may be different, but our hearts are the same.

Of course, with 4 boys in the group there was lots of Wii being played!

And, of course, some silliness must ensue.

The adults may have the kids beat on the silly scale!

Oh dear, who has Finn?!?!

We had to watch ourselves, though...Officer Finn was on patrol....

...until he discovered the Wii that is. :)

And there also seemed to be some Storm Troopers lurking.

Fortunately at least one of the Storm Troopers came in peace. :)

No reunion would be complete without movie night!

The older Pirates spent lots of time mentoring the newest members of the crew.

And the Pirettes spent hours playing princesses and ponies. (LOVE the hair, ladies!!!)

Finn was in heaven when he discovered the John Deere tractor.

Nothing says F-U-N like a slide in the morning sunshine.

Preparing to do some yard work

The girls LOVED Sydney's "tree house!"

Our girls could not have been more thrilled to be together.

 Queen of the Mountain

Watching a little Pirate football scrimmage...PURPLE....GOLD!!!

He finally found a basketball goal his size! :)

 A little light housework

Taking a break in the hammock...

 ...and then there were four...

 ...and then there were more!

And when we were too exhausted to play anymore, we passed out in Uncle Cheese's arms.
(It is the definition of love when you see your friend gently cradling your child in their arms...melts my heart every time.)

It was so rejuvenating for me to be with my very dearest friends - my family - who loves and accepts me as I am. We were sad Joey could not be with us - he was in New Orleans for a training conference - but the time together still left me energized. When we parted, we hugged (and cried a little) and made promises to make more time for moments like this. We are counting down the days until our 2nd annual beach trip...and until then, we will hold each other close in our hearts.

Finn's 15-Month Stats

Finnegan Michael
26 pounds 9 ounces (80th percentile)
31 1/4 inches (60th percentile)
20 inch head circ. (97th percentile)

He is still a BIG boy, but I think the stomach bug slowed his weight gain a little. He only gained 6 ounces since we were last at the doctor before Christmas. The way he's eating these days he'll catch up in no time! Either that, or he's about to grow 6 inches! :)

Click here to compare his stats to his sisters. I was looking over their growth charts and noticed that at 12 months Finn weighed the same as Lily at 2 years! :)

My Net

I read this post recently and it made me think about the amazing people that I am blessed to have in my life...the ones who have seen me at my best and at my absolute worst...and love me anyway. These people are my refuge, my soft place to fall, my cheerleaders, and they make life all the sweeter with their love and laughter. This is MY NET.

My husband whose comedy routines keep me in stitches even after 14 years. He's stuck with me through the good, the bad, the ugly, and the downright disgusting...even piles of warm, fresh vomit spewed all over the house haven't managed to extinguish our love for each other and out life together.

My Parents...I am one of the fortunate kids whose parents have stuck together. My mom and dad have always shown me unconditional love and support. Even after 32 years, they still continue to look out for their first-born baby. :)

My Sisters...I completely understood when Jo March (Little Women) said, "I'll never love anyone as I love my sisters." I have no idea how people make it through life without one...or in my case, two. They were my first friends and are now my best friends. I am so thankful we have each other.

My Cousins....
...and my aunts and uncles. They truly have been my soft place to fall. I am so blessed to be a member of such a close and loving family.

Jess and Jenn...my BFFs from ECU. We've seen each other through some of the happiest and most difficult times in our lives. They know me in ways that no one else does and they love me in spite of all my shortcomings...and they make me laugh longer and harder than anyone else! They are not friends...they are family!

My Kristy...my very best friend from high school. We were kids together. We have grown up together. She's known me longer than any other friend. She knew me when I was 14, boy-crazy, and very silly...I think I've finally outgrown the boy-crazy. :) We've had sleepovers, swings at the park, and shared many secrets. We've celebrated graduations, weddings, and births. She'll always be my unbiological sister. :)

My brother and sister-in-law...cool, fun, energetic, and enthusiastic. They have driven up for each of our children's births...dropping everything to celebrate our "birth day" and to help take care of the other kiddos. They are some of the most kind-hearted and giving people I have ever known. I pray we can show them as much love and support as they've shown us.

My Mother-in-law (aka Grandma)...one of the MOST tenderhearted people I have ever known. I love that we are friends...not just family. I love our long talks, listening to her read to and play with the kids, and her smile that warms me from the inside out. She's the best! :)

For my Pirate Family, who knows everything about me...and loves me anyway. Happy Valentine's Day! I love you with all my heart!!!
