Big Boy Bed!

Sunday night I was in the nursery preparing to put Finn to bed. When it was time for me to put him in the crib, he refused and instead jumped on the toddler bed (that I had moved into his room about 2 months ago), laid on his tummy, and wouldn't budge.

"Joey, I think Finn wants to sleep in his big boy bed tonight!"

"OK, but we better Finny-proof the room first."

So, we went about moving the humidifier, the CD player and several other items of toddler interest out of his reach. We rearranged the room so that his toddler bed fit where his crib had been, tucked him in bed, reminded him that he had to stay in bed like a big boy, kissed him and left...fully expecting a meltdown just like we had experienced with both his sisters. (Cassidy stood at the gated door and screamed while Lily, who had no gate on her room, screamed and cried until she fell asleep in front of her closed bedroom door making it nearly impossible for us to get inside to move her.)

There was one distressed call for "Mommy!" and then silence. I went several times to try and listen at the door...but heard nothing. It was so quiet and calm, in fact, that Joey and I were certain that he must be up playing with his toys or reading his books, so Joey went in to check. Nope...our sweet little man was laying in bed, wide awake and perfectly calm. WOW, that was easy!!!

He's slept in his big boy bed twice since then...at naptime yesterday and last night, both times with no incident. I was completely blown away, but Joey said we shouldn't be surprised. It's totally in keeping with his laid-back personality. So I'll just celebrate that we breezed through that milestone. :)

It's in those moments that you step back, wipe your brow, take a deep breath, and think to yourself, "BOYS ARE SO EASY!" :) Way to go Finn!
